Supporters over the years, former and current board members, sponsors and individuals who have played – or continue to play – a significant role in Ikamva’s growth were invited to share in the celebration. Tokens of appreciation were presented, photographs taken, and guests enjoyed fellowship with delicious refreshments. A framed certificate was awarded to Jolande by All Nations University, inscribed Honor for Excellence in Leadership and Vision. The certificate was formally presented by Prof Jacob Prince. The board also expressed their appreciation to Jolande, while all contributors – especially the “veterans” – were warmly thanked for their role in Ikamva’s journey.
Vision: To be part of services creating a safe environment for youth, young children, and persons seeking Integrated Health and Wellness Services. Mission: To provide a safe environment for children, youth, and people requiring substance abuse and health care support from birth to 80 years. To assist with ECD training and education, ensuring learners receive help with schoolwork and early childhood development from ages 0-15. Education remains the top priority.
Background in short
Ikamva began in 2005 after participating in the Ikamva Youth Economic Development Tour through the Overstrand, aimed at helping youth achieve their hopes and dreams. Blompark and nearby Beverly Hills face socio-economic challenges including unemployment, substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, school dropouts, and crime.
Projects
For 20 years, Ikamva has worked to address these challenges. The organisation manages five projects under the supervision of a project manager: *Integrated Health & Wellness Services; *Early Intervention Substance Abuse; *Early Childhood Development Centre; *After-School Care Programme; *Food Kitchen. These projects are overseen by qualified, dedicated staff and board members from diverse professional backgrounds.
Looking Ahead
Ikamva continues to empower communities with services that help people rise above their circumstances and contribute to South Africa’s economy. Plans are underway to expand programmes to Stanford, Gansbaai, Baardskeerdersbos, Pearly Beach, and Buffeljagsbaai. Challenges include transport, running costs, salaries, nutritional support, and maintenance. The organisation has identified land next to the current ECD centre and near the rugby field, which it hopes to purchase to expand services further.
